TNP Policy Fellowship Overview

The TNP policy Fellowship is a unique opportunity for nurse practitioners who are seeking policy and leadership experience in the state legislative and regulatory arena. The fellowship will take place from October 1, 2020 through April 1, 2021 and will consist of in-person and web-based learning experiences facilitated by TNP staff and leadership, including policy modules, coaching sessions, and in-person shadowing experiences in Austin, Texas.

Over the course of the fellowship, participants will:

• Gain an understanding of state government and how nursing policy is developed, passed, and implemented in the State of Texas;
• Learn how to read, dissect, and analyze legislation and understand its implications for nursing practice;
• Hone and refine strategies for effective grassroots advocacy and coalition building; and
• Learn how to build and maintain relationships with legislators, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders who influence and directly impact the policy-making process.
