Legislative Ambassadors: Not the Capitol, But Close
Posted over 1 year ago by Amy Owens Horelica
Friday, November 10, TNP and PAPN Texas members converged near the capital of our great state of Texas. TNP hosted its first ever Legislative Ambassador training in North Austin at the Kalahari Resort. PAPN Texas joined in the discovery of the rules of engagement at the safari expedition themed event. Stella Logan, Michelle Hext, Justin Cullers, Sandy Yaklin, Stacey, and Amy Owens Horelica attended as new and experienced Ambassadors. The training covered such topics as Getting Started as a Legislative Ambassador, How to Make Your Case and Engage in Your Legislative District, and The Art of Political Communications and Messaging. In addition to making connections with other like-minded Nurse Practitioners across the state, attendees were able to witness mock scenarios and sample questions in preparation for future and media engagements.
Our own Stella Logan is already ahead of the hunt! Recently, while attending a fundraiser for Senator Sarah Eckhardt, she was able to grab a few minutes with both Senator Eckhardt, and Senator Gutierrez. Both Senators are supporters of mental health, the role of nurse practitioners and their goals. Additionally, she learned that Senator Gutierrez is a challenger to Ted Cruz in the upcoming 2024 election. On the fun side, Stella’s husband got the first dance with Senator Eckhardt! Anyone interested in learning more about the role, or becoming a legislative liaison with TNP can contact Amy, Stella, Justin, or TNP for more information.
